What are the Benefits of Yoga
Yuki teaches emphasizes the proper body alignment of each asana with breath so that there is a harmony in physical and mental body. When there is correct alignment in the body, energy can flow smoothly. The proper alignment can also prevent injuries in yoga practice. I focus on individual needs even in the group setting. Each person has a different body type, difficulties and obstacles in practice, so it’s my job to provide the use of props such as blocks, belts, blankets, bolsters, chairs or ropes so that each can work in their range of motion safely and effectively. Sequencing of asana is another important focus for me. With effective sequencing of which asana is practiced first and next, there will be a safe opening of the body and mind simultaneously and the experience and benefits are intensified even more. Also, asanas are held long enough so that it allows safe entrance, time to study and deepen the pose externally and internally. The practice is quite therapeutic. It is great for recovery from injury or prevention of further injury/illness. With experienced guidance, many ailments are cured by consistent yoga practice. Besides postures (asana) and breathing (pranayama), yoga cultivates 6 other disciplines that align our whole being including social and personal disciplines, meditation etc. Asana and Pranayama are not just physical exercise, but also deeply connected to our attitude, behavior and approach to our lives. I encourage my students to have their own personal goals in yoga practice and seek beyond the physical benefits.
